The performance of timber fire doors is judged by subjecting them to the standard test procedure specified in BS 476 : Part 22: 1987 or BS EN 1634-1: 2000. All fire doors need to be tested on complete door assemblies, with the door and frame with all the necessary hardware.
Fire doors are normally rated as ½ hour or 1 hour fire doors dependant on specification. Fire doors need to include intumescent strips to be effective in preventing the spread smoke and heat.
One hour fire resisting door will normally prevent hot gases from passing for 45 minutes, with collapse after one hour. Call us to discuss your requirements
